Best friends from birth, eleven year-olds Sam and Julia live and go to school in the small town of Unionvale and walk from school to their mothers’ veterinary clinic along the historic Main Street. Animal lovers to their core, Sam and Julia know all the pet owners and love helping out with the patients and the clinic.

A regular client at the vet clinic, Doug boards his cat often as he travels extensively for his work as an archaeologist. Never in their wildest dreams could Sam and Julia imagine what would happen that day at the clinic after school! Swept up in a fantastic adventure, Sam and Julia must trust each other and their regular patient, Tom, an orange tabby cat, as they work together to secure Doug and an archaeological artifact that has global importance.
